Shaft Earthing Device — SED

Propeller shaft earthing device protecting against corrosion and cavitation.

Shaft earthing device on a propeller shaft: slip ring, brushes and braided copper straps

Overview

A slip ring and brushes on the shaft carry the voltage that builds up between the rotating propeller shaft and the hull back to the hull. The propeller then shares the hull's cathodic protection, and spark erosion in the bearings and corrosion on the propeller are prevented.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Brings the propeller into cathodic protection
  • Protects bearings from spark erosion
  • Brush gear that is easy to service
